round 2
You will need to examine how your country generates and spends money. Where are your priorities and what does your nation value?
September 21, 2018
Many nations around the world are struggling under massive debt. It will be your job to draft a series of policies that will help your country either reign in its spending, generate more revenue, or both. A think tank has come up with a list of 8 ways that your country could better balance its books. You will need to choose which of the following policies you'd like to adopt, and then you will draft a public announcement to let your people know what changes are coming. This draft should include all of the changes you're making, as well as the reason each change is being made. The nation that drafts the best series of new laws, will be given a reward.
1. Promote economic growth through innovation.
The government will invest in new technology companies.
2. Immigration reform.
Your nation will search for skilled immigrants that can come in to fill vacant jobs.
3. End the war of drugs.
Many of the nations of the world have spent billions of dollars fighting drugs only to see the problem persist with no clear path to victory. Drugs would be legalized, sold by the government, and taxed.
4. Require unemployed workers to volunteer.
The longer the unemployed receive payments, the longer they will remain unemployed. Require the unemployed to work at a non-profit to continue to receive unemployment insurance.
5. Steal economically rich areas from smaller nations.
Use your military to aggressively take territory from other nations.
6. Cut health care costs.
Allow private companies to come in and offer healthcare services for those that can afford it.
7. Remove regulations.
Remove much of the red tape that makes it so difficult to large companies to expand and build. You will now favour growth over safety and environmental concerns.
8. Increase income taxes.
The government needs money; the easiest way to get this is to increase the taxes on the population. You must decide which part of society will see this increase.

Round 3
As a part of your countries new economic policies, you have recruited thousands of skilled workers from the tiny country of Floran. While hard workers, these immigrants have also brought with them many new customs and beliefs. You will need to figure out how you will deal with these new practices in your country. You must write down the list of laws that exist in your country that relate to these customs, or create laws that provide clarity on some of these issues.
September 28. 2018
The people of Floran are predominantly Floranists, a religion that seems quite strange to the people of your nation. This religion is quite peaceful, except for a small faction known as the Ultra-Floranists, who are known to at times use violence to destroy that which they deem to be offensive or blasphemous.
Here are a list of some of the most unique practices of the Floranists (practices of the Ultra-Floranists are included in this list):
1. Woman must wear earrings that are at least 3 inches long.
2. Half of your income must be given to those in need.
3. Boys can't cut their hair until they are 12 years old.
4. Their holy book, the Illumination of Floran the Great, must be memorized before the age of 12. Failure to memorize this 50 page book results in the expulsion of the child from the community. In Floran these children live in special orphanages designed specifically for this purpose.
5. Men, boys over the age of 12, must wear a small head covering called a Flor.
6. Floranists believe that plaid is the pattern of evil, and teach that they are justified in destroying anything that is plaid. This includes injuring or even killing anyone that wears, sells, or promotes plaid.
7. Only arranged marriages are permitted.
8. Once someone is married, they are not permitted to divorce; therefore there is no remarriage either.

Round 4
You have a strong and well-reasoned political system in place, but due to revolutionary activities along your borders, you are beginning to worry about the amount of power that you have given to those in leadership positions. You must ensure that your political leaders are representative, responsible, and that their power is kept in check. How will you do this?
October 4, 2018
As a group, develop a plan to keep your governing body in check. How will you make sure that your elected leaders do not become tyrants? Feel free to research ideas found in other nations to carry out this task. The nation the best plan and description will win a reward.

Round 5
The United Nations has called upon the nations of the world to reevaluate the conditions that workers must endure. The UN would like a report on the working conditions in your nation. They are hoping that each nation balances both the rights of workers and the freedom of individuals to own and operate a business.

Round 6
The longtime leader of the nation of Mugabe, President Irwin Rommel, has just been overthrown in a bloodless coup. He is currently being held in his home under armed guard. The people of Mugabe, who have been led by Rommel for the last 40 years, are looking to the other nations of the world to assist them in the transition to a new government. You will need to assist the nation in deciding what to do with Rommel and how to help Mugabe get back on its feet.
October 19, 2018
You will first meet in your groups to decide what you want to be done, you will then meet together to attempt to reach an agreement on what should be done.
Rommel's crimes include creating policies that hurt the agricultural community leading to disease and the death of thousands, while the wealthy elite remained well fed and healthy. He is also charged with being responsible for the deaths of at least 3 opposition political leaders, though this has not been proven. Rommel has never allowed free elections, and restricted many of the freedoms we take for granted from his people. Likely the most criticism against Rommel stems from seizure of power 40 years ago, where he and his new government executed between 25-50 former political leaders.
Your groups may choose to either:

Your groups may choose to either:
- pardon him and allow him to live the rest of his life outside of the country
- pardon him but seize all of this assets
- prison time
- execution
You must also decide on the following:
- allow vice president to take power in a transitional government and then hold elections (uncertainty whether elections would actually take place)
- have immediate election
- allow a nation to absorb Mugabe to ensure order (that nation would receive 5 resources of their choice)
- immediate free trade (every group gets 2 resources of their choice, but nation closest to Mugabe would get 3)
- Mugabe is located off the coast of Australia
- limited free trade (every group gets 1 resource)
- No trade - Mugabe remains isolated
Round 7
One of the surest indicators of a nation with a discontent population and a high crime rate is the income equality in that nation. In the last 10 years, many economists have debated how to solve the problem of income equality, but it is not very often that these measures are tried.
November 30, 2017
The United Nations is trying to encourage the nations of the world to experiment with implementing policies aimed at reducing income inequality. It has rounded up a number of economists to presents some ideas. Once these ideas are presented, it will be up to each nation to look at the options, decide which ones to use, and then create a policy specific to that nation. Here is the list of policy options that have been developed:

- support training, apprenticeships, and earn-while-you-learn programs.
- cut small business taxes
- provide incentives for high income earners to use their income to invest in the local economy.
Round 8
As the nations of the world have been entering a more digital age, power has begun to shift to those with the most information and the willingness to take it and use that information. As Communist Party leader Lu Wei once said, "The Internet is a worldwide platform for sharing information. It is a community of common interests. No country is immune to such global challenges as cybercrime, hacking, and invasion of privacy."
November 8, 2018
The nations of the world are in the midst of a cyber-war, as each nation is attempting to dig up dirt on the other to seed discontent and violence amongst the people. A recruiting drive is on as each nation attempts to find those with the expertise to hack into the deeply hidden and encrypted information held by its enemies.
You are the new recruits. If the recruits from your nation win this challenge, you will be declared to winners of this new cyber-war.
Challenge: Wikipedia speed race

Round 10
22Is the Internet like water? Should Internet Service Providers (ISPs) be regulated like utilities or like mobile phone companies? Net neutrality in the United States has just been repealed. Net neutrality regulations, passed under President Obama, forced ISPs to provide content equally. The Trump appointed FCC have done away with these regulations opening the door for ISPs to decide how they will distribute content on the internet.
Nov. 22, 2018 You must create regulations for your country concerning how the internet will be used. Will your nations create laws making the internet neutral, or will you favour very little regulation and allow ISPs to decide how they provide access? Pros:
Make sure your regulations are specific. You will have to argue at the end of the document you create, why you believe you still have a balance between freedom and order concerning the economic freedom/order index. The winner will receive an extra 2 grain. Also, an additional 2 tech will be given to the team that finds the fast download speed on a school computer and the fastest wireless download speed in the school. A picture/screenshot is needed for proof. Speed Test |

Round 11
The United Nations has been looking across the world for its model nation. One of the most important criteria is how happy the nations people are. To test which nation is the happiest and most united, the UN has declared that there will be a handshake content. The winner of the handshake contest will move up one spot on the technology tree.
In Other News... Grasa de Polo and Tuborah continue to hold to economic treaty that was signed two years ago and continue to benefit from its economic privilages. Both Dynamite Dynasty and Borah have broken the treaty and engaged in warfare. Has this lead to an informal military alliance? There are rumours that a member of Grasa de Pola has been assaulted, though no formal charges have been laid and the investigation is ongoing. Inside sources have released a report claiming that Tuborah is planning to invade Canada in response to the invasion of Africa. And finally, what happened to Antarctica? |

Round 12
As Justin Trudeau is the Prime Minister of Canada, Donald Trump the President of the United States, and rumours of Oprah making a run for the presidency in 2020, it is undeniable the power of celebrity in politics.

Your campaign poster should stand out and state why your chosen celebrity would make a good ruler. On the back, you must also include a brief response to the following question: How do you feel about the power of celebrity in politics today? You may find one picture online that will be printed in colour for you. The winning group will be the group that has presented the most persuasive poster. The top group will have the protection of the UN for the next round. This means that if they are attacked, the UN army will be placed on the board to help with defense. |
Round 13
